Cary Wilkins, Senior Pastor

I grew up in Hempstead – a small town that was as delightfully commonplace as any found along the crisscrossing Farm-to-Market roads of southeast Texas.  I completed my schooling at Texas A&M where I received undergraduate and graduate degrees in Industrial/Organizational Psychology.  My wife, Debbie, and I have been married for 35 years now and we have three children: Chad, Eric, and Lauren.  Our family, now expanded by marriages and our first grandchild, is our greatest joy after Jesus.

I worked for a large international energy company after graduate school.  Over the course of 28 years and various leadership positions in Human Resource Management (HRM), I retired from that company in 2010.  During my last ten years with the company, I served in executive leadership, leading global HRM organizations and helping guide the reshaping of those businesses into high performance, mission-focused teams.  As satisfying and rewarding as my business career was for me through the last day, I sensed God calling me to serve the church in ordained ministry several years before leaving the company.  That calling was nurtured as I served in various lay leadership and teaching roles in Foundry UMC, including two terms as Lay Leader.  I graduated in December 2013 with a Master of Divinity degree from Asbury Theological Seminary.

I began serving the Church as a licensed local pastor shortly after leaving business, serving at Foundry UMC, Shepherd UMC, and The Harvest UMC (Missouri City).  I was ordained an Elder in the UMC during my time at The Harvest.  While honing my professional skills and abilities over the years, the Spirit of God has been faithfully cultivating my spiritual gifts of leadership, administration, and teaching, through my lay service, seminary education, and pastoral ministry experiences.  I’m so glad to be a part of the Kingdom work that has been underway at First Fulshear throughout the course of its long history and blessed to serve this church and community as one of the latest additions to its long roll of disciples of Jesus Christ.
